On a glorious day for rugby, the 2017/18 season began with a friendly against two teams both playing their rugby this year in the Essex Division One after promotion last season. EUC are to be commended on their technique and structure with a powerful scrum and breakdown game that at times left Eton Manor travelling backwards at some pace. It was clear that both sides were a little "ring rusty" and Eton Manor fitness was at times an issue.
Notwithstanding, the Eton Manor back line were the difference, running with pace and power, they made life very difficult for the EUC backs in defence. Dan Davey was again outstanding, at both scrum and fly half. Farouk Asubiaro too was unstoppable when given the opportunity to run.
What was most pleasing was the turn out of new players and returning players, and if we can keep this going. With our new coacing set we will only get better.
