Its a BIG Happy Birthday too!

Today Friday 15th May 2020 is Derek Edwards birthday when he will turn a sprightly 74 years old. More importantly, it also marks 60 years to the day that he first joined Eton Manor! Back in those days the original club and grounds were based on The Wilderness at Hackney Wick, boys were only allowed to join on their 14th Birthday onwards.

Derek has been a keen and active member of Eton Manor ever since. He has played various sports for the club, including Cricket and in particular Rugby where he has represented the club at every level, from 14 years old to First XV, he has taken on various Official and Committee roles over the years and more recently (since he retired) is still very active as the clubs Senior Rugby, kit & resources Manager, on top of this position, he also finds time to help out with the clubs youth sections every Sunday.

A lifetime devoted to playing, contributing and friendship within the sport we all play & love. Derek’s enthusiasm, generosity and spirit is the heart and soul of our club and the core of the reasons our community based club was originally established back in 1908.

Although we are all constrained by the social distancing measures currently in place caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, I ask you all at some point today to raise a glass and salute one of our clubs greatest members as we all join in to wish Derek a very Happy Birthday and more importantly to celebrate with him and his family, his Eton Manor Diamond Membership today!

Congratulations Derek from everyone at Eton Manor RFC
