Eton Manor RFC Coaches Bring Rugby to Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Wanstead
Pupils at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School will be treated to an exciting introduction to rugby starting this week, thanks to organised sessions from the dedicated coaches at Eton Manor Rugby Football Club which are aimed to run weekly throughout the remainder of the Academic Year.
The initiative, part of Eton Manor RFC’s ongoing community programme, aims to inspire young children to get involved in the sport and foster a love for rugby from an early age. Coaches will deliver an engaging and energetic sessions tailored to primary school students, focusing on fun, teamwork, and the core values of the game.
“We’re passionate about growing the game and making rugby accessible to everyone,” said Dan Cooper, Youth Vice-Chairman (Minis Section) and Eton Manor coach. “By coming into schools like Our Lady of Lourdes, we hope to spark interest and show children how rewarding and enjoyable rugby can be.”
The sessions included basic skills such as passing, movement, and non-contact games, all designed to build confidence and encourage participation. Following some trial sessions at Our Lady of Lourdes during the last school year, teachers praised the coaches for their enthusiasm and ability to connect with the children, many of whom were experiencing rugby for the first time.
Eton Manor RFC, based in Wanstead East London, has a long-standing tradition of community involvement and youth development. The club hopes that initiatives like this will not only boost participation in local schools but also encourage families to explore opportunities at the club itself.
