TUESDAY 20TH FEBRUARY 12.15pm City of London Cemetery Wake at Eton Manor RFU Club from 1.15pm

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing today of Fred Spencer, one of Eton Manors oldest past players.

Fred was more than just ‘any old member’ but possibly the last surviving member of our very first colts team which celebrates it’s 75th anniversary this year.

After his playing days were over he became involved in the running of the club during a period of uncertainty when the original Boys Club was dissolved leaving the various sports to make their own futures. After filling various positions within the club he went on to take on a number of roles with Essex RFU.

Fred was a very proud ‘Manor Boy’ and would happily engage in conversation with anyone who wanted to know about the history of Eton Manors Boys Club and Eton Manor RFC, of which he was an aficionado.

Whilst rugby was Fred’s first love, he played many sports and was an accomplished cricketer and was a long time member and official at Wanstead Cricket Club.

It was fitting that last year we were able to honour Fred for his services to the club with an official portrait photograph that is on display inside the clubhouse.

All at Eton Manor RFC pass on our sincere condolences to Fred’s family and friends.
