Records tumble in 18 try romp.

Manor welcomed Ruislip this week, they are the team who have had the longest uninterrupted run in London 1 North, but have struggled this season and travelled to the New Wilderness winless so far this season. Although Manor had started to rediscover some of their earlier season form they weren’t taking anything for granted and wanted to continue their improvement, but no one could have foreseen what happened. Manor totally outclassed their gallant opponents running in 18 tries and in the process scoring the most number of points by a Manor senior team in living memory.

Manor kicked of the game and it was soon apparent that they were playing at a different level to their opponents, they were quicker to the breakdown, were more powerful with ball in hand and attacked at a greater pace. Both sides made some early handling errors but it wasn’t long before Manor created their first scoring opportunity. Ruislip won a defending lineout inside their 22, the throw in was stolen by Tom Christopher and the ball moved swiftly back to flyhalf Callum McKie who spotted space out wide on the opposite side of the park, but his cross-field kick was too long allowing Ruislip to touch down for a 22 dropout.

Ruislip couldn’t get out of their half and found themselves having to defend wave after wave of Manor attacks, the dam was eventually breached when Cameron Dutch broke towards Ruislip’s 22, he ghosted past a couple of defenders then drew his man and delayed his pass out to Rob Falls, creating a gap for Falls to run through and sprint the 20 meters to the line for Manors first score which went unconverted, Manor were off the mark 5 – 0 after 8 minutes.

Falls was again on the scoresheet when from the kick off Manor won a penalty which they kicked for an attacking lineout inside Ruislip’s 22. Jack Sullivan secured the throw and Manor set up a driving maul which was initially well countered by Ruislip, but Manor got a second drive on with Falls going over the line for the try, this time Cameron Dutch was successful with the difficult conversion, 12 – 0.

From the restart Manors two second rows combined when Christopher caught the ball making good initial yardage before feeding Sullivan who rampaged 40 meters up the middle of the park before finally being brought to ground. Ryan Lee was in support and continued the attack before the backs joined in the attack, McKie then sent another cross-field kick to the other side of the pitch, Dutch caught the ball and skipped along the touchline as defenders converged on him divining in at the corner only for the try to be disallowed as his foot had just brushed the sideline before scoring.

Manors backline now got into the scoring act after Manor won a scrum inside Ruislip’s half, Jamie Millais came in off his wing making the initial ground before the ball was recycled back along the line where Dutch again drew his man before passing out to Elliot Brown on his wing and despite having a number of defenders in front of him he evaded their clutches and went over for what would be the first of four tries that he would score. The touch line conversion was successful and after 22 minutes the score was 19 – 0.

Brown soon scored his second try when the Manor backs executed a fine move using dummy runners that took the Ruislip defenders out of position allowing McKie to put a chip kick in ahead which Brown chased, gathered and went over the line for a seven point score.
Both sides had to make changes for injuries with McKie coming off for Manor being replaced by Ben Boulton-Smith and a couple of tactical changes were made in the pack.

The changes didn’t disrupt Manors rhythm with the next score being scored by Brad Burrell who was the beneficiary of a well executed catch and drive from a lineout although the extra points weren’t added the scoreboard moved to 31 – 0.

Manor scored another two tries in the time remaining of the first half, both by hooker Ryan Lee. The first came after a great break by Ollie Waugh who took play from the halfway line to Ruislip’s 22, here he exchanged passes with lee then when 5 meters from the line popped the ball back to Lee who went over the line. The second try came soon after another Manor attack saw a ruck 5 meters from Ruislip’s line with the ball available it was passed to Lee who came charging in from deep driving to the line and in the process knocking a Ruislip player in the air as he scored the final points of the half giving Manor a very comfortable half time lead 43 – 0.

Ruislip kicked off the second half and initially Manor were guilty of some poor handling which gave the spirited Ruislip side time inside Manors half, but they could find no way through Manor’s defences and were suffering a number of injuries to their players.
It took Manor 8 minutes of the second half to add to their tally, the ball was turned over on the halfway line and prop Burrell charged off up the field taking play into Ruislip’s 22 before feeding the supporting Waugh who used his pace to beat the defenders in a race to the line for another 7 point score.

Millais was the next Manor scorer benefitting from Manor turning over a Ruislip scrum allowing Waugh to break off the back then feeding Millais who beat his opposite number then sprinted in from 35 meters out for a seven point score.

Millais soon added to his tally after a great break by Dutch saw him stopped short of the line, but he held the ball up well to feed the supporting Millais who scored another 7 point score, the scoreboard had now ticked on to 64 – 0.

There was nothing Ruislip could do now to stem the flow of points being scored against them, in quick succession Carley Buisson, substitute Rhys Davis-Horne and Brown all scored taking Manors total to 83 – 0 and with still time to play Manor were determined to keep up their tempo and reach the 100 point mark.

The next 3 tries were all scored by Manors backs and it was Brown and Dutch who were the principle tormentors for Ruislip, Dutch scoring two tries and Elliot another one, all scored from distance and slicing through what was now a very ragged defence and it was Dutch who scored the points that took Manor to the 100 point mark.

With almost the last play of the game Boulton-Smith scored the final try of the game as he barrelled his way over the line from 5 meters out, with the conversion missed the scored had moved to 110 – 0 and although the ref did re-start the game it was soon brought to a conclusion.
Ruislip are going through very difficult times and no one likes to see that from a club who has always upheld the true traditions of the game. But Manor can only play the opposition that turns up on the day. What was pleasing from Manor was that they didn’t take their foot off the pedal, something that they had been guilty of in the past when they had got themselves into a comfortable winning position.
Club records tumbled on the day and to score 110 points including 18 tries is impressive against any side. Next week Manor travel to Woodford, their nearest rivals and although they only sit one place above Ruislip in the table, they know that they will be in for a much sterner test.

After the match Eton Manors D.O. R. Mark Farrell said ‘For whatever reason, it seems every season one club within a league campaign will be under strength and subsequently struggle, this season in London One North it’s Ruislip RFC. That said, we can only play what’s in front of us.

Today we showed good composure, trusting our game plan, working hard together to produce a record score for Manor of 110 - 0, including an incredible 18 unanswered tries, four of which were scored by winger Elliott Brown.
Full credit to this Manor side for retaining it’s focus throughout the 80 minutes to get the job done.
We now look to prepare ourselves for next weeks League fixture away to local rivals Woodford RFC.
