A match report from Gary Davies, third team captain and legend

The team but the wheels back on the wagon yesterday trumping Upminster 40-12 away from home.

It was a seriously chilly day, however, the ground was firm, even though it has more of a slope on it than your average welsh hillside. Upminster didn’t have a referee but said one of their props could ref but it would mean uncontested scrums. Once we’d picked Sweet Pete back up from the floor (no mean feat I can tell you) we offered up Saunders to ref (Hollis didn’t really want him to play anyway) to which he graciously agreed and proceeded to contribute to an open game – for us anyway….

We opened up on Upminster from the first minute producing some text book rugby throwing the ball around and hitting rucks with venom, it was almost enough dynamism to make your average Passmores rugby player proud. 10 minutes in we were 12 nil up, Jeff converting the first of 7 tries and then not managing another one. The most notable part of the first half was Lovett’s failure to score a push over try despite being 5 yards past the dead ball line but it was clearly Jeff’s fault for some poor communication, in addition the Upminster try line had mysteriously been rubbed out at that of the line. In total we turned round 27 nil up and well positioned to go on and win the game.

In the second half we let Upminster get back in the game, they got the first score after a concerted period of pressure and seemed to think they were back in the game. Overall the 2nd half was a bit more even, we spent sustained periods of pressure of the game in their half as they infringed and attempted to take Manor heads off (at one point Ralph scraped his nose on a piece of grass and let out such a strangled cry spectators thought he was dying.) During this period we kicked a penalty and scored 2 more tries including Lovett making up for his cock up in the first half. Try scorers were Lovett, Hollis, Ralph -2, Keeny and Kerion -2. Willie put in a good performance at open side for a whole game and Kit made a menace of himself (not new behaviour for him and possibly preparation for the tour).

Then came the greatest miscarriage of justice ever seen on these British Isles, Forget the Guildford 4, Wilston Silcott and the Birmingham 6. Certain members of the team conspired to commit fraud by electing your Dear leader as both Man of the Match and for the Makowski Moment. Having performed well on the first pint, your correspondent invoked captain’s privilege and got the team bitch, Max, to drink the second. Watch out for tour rules boys, I will have my revenge...

Passmores beat Romford at Crow Lane by 37-31. Although the table doesn’t currently show it I believe we are 3 points clear with a game in hand. Passmores have one game left against us on March 19th. Even if we lose both games the most they can do is draw with us in points (as we will get a point for turning up to Braintree) so it will come down to point’s difference and we currently have a 28 point lead...
