On a cold, Muddy winter morning Manor 3s travelled to the far flung southend. After a well fought loss to a ridiculously strong barking team last week manor were keen to make amends at Southend. They arrived to find themselves on a pitch which seemed to be lacking something...Grass...
Returning to the manor side were dynamic flanker henry, The tackling monster, Terry and back 3 players Jim and Jack Pike. Also starting for the first time together since before the internet existed was the old school foursome of tony Armstrong, Cushy, Dave Dennis and Angelo.
The game was a tense affair with Southend’s huge pack doing well to slow down the game. Their Robocop like fullback’s kicks created good position for Southend to launch their simple pick and go game plan. The first half ended with manor failing to capitalise on any chances and the score line reading 3-3. Manor started the second half the stronger with Henry scoring a very good long range try. Southend repelled with a good try themselves from their backs. Manor’s defence was excellent with brad cotton leading the charge. A very good break from Chris Vickers resulted in Riaan going over from close range to seal the game.
Southend fought hard but good manor defence and spirit won them the game.
Humerous moments included Angelo’s outburst at a maul asking “who the **** is that on the floor”, Dave Dennis and his incredible coughing sounds he managed to produce and Tony Armstrong volunteering to go in the second row to show the youngsters how it is done (he might regret saying he can go there!)
There were good performances from; the cavalier Jack Pike, Brad cotton, Henry, Bobby on the wing but my man of the match goes to Luke for making countless carries and always beating the first tackler.
