Essex Cup Quarter Final

For the second week in a row Manor hosted Basildon, last week in the league, this week the quarter final of the Essex Cup. Last weeks game had to be abandoned just before half time, with a 28-5 win to Manor, due to injury reducing Basildon's already depleted squad. Credit to Basildon they came back to re-play Manor in the Essex Cup. Manor were without Neo and Alfie but still fielded one of their strongest starting line ups of this season which soon became apparent with Manor scoring almost immediately. Manor's forwards were dominant in the scrum and breakdown giving their backs plenty of ball and space to run in. Two more tries in quick succession by Max and Harry and Jack's reliable boot increased the score line to 21-0 in the first quarter. A Manor scrum 5m from Basildon try line saw Alex peal off the back and score. For such a strong player this was a special moment for Alex, his first Manor try. Another try Will after a bursting run and Manor had a comfortably 35-0 lead.

Half time was a welcome break for the Basildon coaches and I don't know what was said but second half they were a different team. Basildon pushed hard as Manor were dropping off tackles. Eventually their gutsy play paid off with a try of their own, 35-5. Unfortunately this seemed to wake up Manor again, a quick tap from Max and Adam and Harry at pace scythed through Basildon's defence with Harry scoring. This was followed by Adam's second try and Jermaine finishing a back three running display. Final score 54-5.
