There Back!

This friendly match was played at Loughton RFC . Thanks to Loughton RFC for providing the tea and bacon sandwiches!. This game was a competitive affair, both team maintaining a high tempo throughout the match. St Albans started well with a good kick and chase which lead to a swift turn over. However a mistake by St Albans lead to Eton Manor swing the ball to the left where Will Fitch (no.11) was able to score next to the posts. St Albans stormed back into the match with 2 quick tries, through some poor Eton Manor defence. Eton Manor scored again soon after through Farhad (no.6) running in from 25m out. Good work by the forwards and quick hands by the backs saw another try to Will Fitch on the left late in the first half. Eton Manor started in similar fashion in the second half, as this time the ball was swept to the right from deep in the Eton manor half and Brian (no.14) showed his pace to score in the corner. Will white (no.10) missed his first conversion of the day. St Albans tried hard to mount attacks but Eton Manor continued to assert their dominance through good defence and attacking play. Within minutes of the re- start Eton manor were able to move the ball quickly to the left where Farhad scored his second try of the game. Oscar Fox (no.13) showed a good turn of pace to make a barnstorming run soon after the kick off , passing to Brian on the wing. Good defence by St Albans lead to play breaking down. Will Fitch scored his third try when he burst through 3-4 tackles to score under the posts with 10 minutes to go. St Albans continued to try to attack from anywhere on the field. A strong run from within his own 10m line by the St Albans prop saw him burst through 2-3 tackles .He was brought down by a crunching front on tackle by Harry( no.15). The subsequent loose ball was picked up and moved to Brian (no.14) on the wing for him to score his second try. The final minutes of the game saw St Albans mount an attack close to the Eton manor line ,with their no.10 finally going over. A good game from both sides . A special mention to Ross Ingram who made some strong runs and lead from the front with his defence and all round play.
