A trip into the deepest parts of essex?? For the final league match of the season! EM fielded 15 players with 3 more still enroute.The match started with SRFC having much of the ball due to a number of baffling penalties , a theme that continued throughout the match. EM defended well and conceded a penalty 35 m out which to the surprise of many was converted into 3 points by the Sudbury fly- half with a well taken penalty kick. The cavalry arrived in the knock of time as Kasey injured his elbow and needed replacing. SRFC scored to make it 8-0 with 10 min remaining in the first half. A great individual effort by Henry Horne from half way saw the gap close to 8-5 at half time.
The second half continued in the same vain, with SRFC attacking and EM defending well. SRFC converted another penalty, then Pierre showed a clean pair of heals to run through the SRFC defense to score a converted try under the posts! EM 12-11. SRFC continued to pressure EM through a number of penalties, finally scoring a converted try out wide. SRFC were able to hold out a final effort by EM in the closing minutes of the match.
A great effort by the EM lads considering the mountain of possession that SRFC had during the game.Well done to all.
