The U12s season ended with the Eton Manor Festival last Sunday. The Festival had to be posponed in 2012 due to appauling weather conditions with the pitches being under several inches of standing water. No such problems this year. The weather was sunny, if not warm and the pitches were in good condition. The small army of volunteers who organised, fed and generally took care of our visitors and our own were superb as ever. Our thanks to you all!
Eton Manor U12s, probably, had the easier of the two pools and when Wanstead, unfortunately, withdrew because of a shortage of players it left only Finchley and Upminster B in our pool.
Our fist match was against Finchley who have a big, strong pack and quick wingers. However, we switched on quickly, for a change, and ran out eventual winners 30:0.
Upminster B (who were Bs only in name) were the first team to score a point against us in any pool stage game this season and for periods of the game, gave our boys a tough nut to crack but once again the boys got themselves out of a hole and were winners by 15:5.
There was, then, a long wait for us before the final could be played. The extra team in the other pool and then time to recoup for our opposition meant a bit of hanging around. A situation that has, in the past, proved our undoing. Not this time. Perhaps an indication that the boys are beginning to mature.
The Final saw us playing Thurrock. One of only a few teams that had beaten us earlier this season. This time the tables were turned and our forwards dominated the game allowing the back lie to play "Festival" rugby. A 25:0. win brought what has been a wonderful season to an excellent climax.
Thanks, as always, to the unsung heroes, the parents! Who bring their boys week in week out in weather fair and foul, you're all the best!
Thanks to the boys for more often than not, rewarding us with moments of wonderful rugby and leave us wonderring, "why don't you do that every time?"
Dave and Matt for being, Dave and Matt!
Onwards and Up The Manor!!!
